Newspaper Play!

Newspapers get tossed in the garbage daily, here's some GREAT ideas for play:

Open up newspaper into squares.  Scatter squares all over the room.  Have child lead from square to square.

Fine Motor Practice for Prewriting

Prewriting...  So IMPORTANT

Prewriting is the starter skills to writing letters.  When I work with my students, I remind families WHY I work so hard on fine motor practice and prewriting tasks. Prewriting strokes arrive in the following order... just like baby teeth!!

Vertical line (top to bottom)
Horizontal line (left to right)
Circle
Cross (top to bottom, left to right)
X (left to right, right to left - start at the top)

To incorporate fine motor practice, consider checking out the following book:

The Magical Start Write!

Friends!

Allow me to introduce you to my FAVORITE pencil gripper for young emerging writers than need a little prompting to keep a developing tripod grasp (static).  I tend to provide it to kindergarteners within the first month of school as a choice to help facilitate an appropriate grasping pattern if needed.
